Yes, many of our customers contact us looking for fake grass for dogs. Artificial grass offers optimal drainage, so dog urine is drained quickly without any odors left behind. Pet droppings are easy to clean by picking them up and spraying them off. Dogs will not easily be able to tear or chew up artificial grass, and there will be no mud puddles for your pets to track mud through your house.

The backing of artificial grass has no impact on the surface temperature of the turf. Typically, artificial turf is coated with polyurethane to secure the fibers that are tufted into the primary backing. That polyurethane coating is most often black in color, but can be clear, white, blue, green, pink, etc. depending on the color a company wants to use. A color other than black is solely for marketing purposes, and has no impact on the performance of the product.

All artificial turf will get hotter than natural grass in the sunlight. It is similar to pavers / concrete / tile and other similar products in that regard. Even with the heat reduction technologies available in our products, the impact is not significant. Evaporative cooling infills, which we have available, can significantly reduce the temperature. However, they must be watered periodically to provide the cooling effect.

Absolutely. Most artificial turf is made with polyethylene (PE) fibers. When sunlight reflects of windows, vinyl fencing, car wheels, and other reflective surfaces, PE fibers can melt very quickly. This can be prevented in most cases by using screens or films on windows that could cause an issue.

In cases where window coverings are not an option, artificial grass made of nylon fibers can be used. The melting point of nylon is roughly double that of polyethylene. Nylon is more expensive and coarser to the touch, though.

If you do not have a pet, there is not going to be much maintenance / cleaning required in most cases. You may need to occasionally use a leave blower on it to remove debris.

If you have a pet, you will need to pick up waste regularly, and you will probably need to use an enzyme or peroxide cleaner to mitigate odors. Pet urine odors are common if your pets frequently use the turf to relieve themselves, but can be mitigated with those cleaning agents. We also recommend using an antimicrobial coated infill. It will further help to prevent the growth of bacteria, which is one of the primary causes of lingering odors.

The short answer is no. While most companies with either treat the base prior to turf installation or install a weed fabric below the turf, it will not completely prevent the growth of weeds, especially around the perimeter of the installation. Sometimes it is necessary to treat any weeds with an herbicide or pull them by hand.

Yes, but only to a point. Almost all synthetic turf products, with the exception of those designed to surface drain, will allow at least 30” of water to pass through per hour. Some products will drain at rates significantly higher than that. The reality is that the base below the turf is only going to allow water to drain at 3” to 10” per hour. So, regardless how much water the turf will allow to pass through in a given hour, the base is not going to accept anywhere close to the same amount of water. Extremely high drainage rates are usually a marketing tool used by turf and installation companies.
